Here are the answers to your most Frequently Asked Questions!

I noticed that I am losing more hair lately. What causes this?

Losing about 50-100 hairs a day is normal. That may seem like a lot, but considering that you have between 90,000 to 150,000 hairs on your head, it’s just a tiny fraction of your hair. If you are noticing more hair loss, ask yourself these questions. Is your hair longer or darker than it was? If so, you may appear to be losing more hair than you were. Did you stop brushing your hair before getting in the shower? If so, the loose hairs may fall out in the shower instead of in your brush and become more noticeable.

If you haven’t changed your hair or routine, consult your doctor. There is a range of conditions that can cause hair loss. Some reasons include certain medications, thyroid disease, autoimmune diseases, psoriasis, anemia, and even pregnancy.

My hair feels dry; what can I do?

Using a deep conditioning mask once a week (or every 3-4 washes), will help replenish moisture in the hair. I recommend It's a 10 Miracle Hair Mask.

How can I eliminate frizz?

Keratin treatment is a great long-term way to control those frizzies. It will also reduce curl but will not leave your hair flat. Try an express treatment first for six weeks of frizz-free hair. Or a complete treatment for three whole months of smooth locks.

My scalp is dry and flakey. Do I have dandruff?

Most likely, no. The skin on your scalp can get dry, just like the rest of the skin on your body. Like putting lotion on your arms and legs, use conditioner on your scalp to help soothe that dryness. Also, try not to use super hot water while showering. True dandruff is typically thicker, oily, and sometimes yellowish flakes. At that point, you would want to turn to a zinc shampoo.

How do I prevent my hair color from fading?

There are a few things that can help with that.

  • Use a sulfate-free shampoo.

  • If you are already using a sulfate-free shampoo and you're still experiencing fading, try alternating between your shampoo and a cleansing conditioner.

  • On top of that, ensure you're using products with heat and sun protection. Side note: Banana Boat makes an actual hair sunscreen. So if you aren't sure if your products have SPF, pick up a bottle from any drugstore.

My blond hair gets dull over time. How can I keep it nice and bright?

When you highlight your hair over and over, the cuticle layer becomes compromised, which allows minerals in your water to absorb into your hair. Just like how you can get that ring or discoloration in your toilet or shower, it's doing the same to your hair. To prevent this, use a clarifying shampoo once weekly (or every 3-4 washes). If you like your blond to be extra bright and icy, you can also use a purple blonding shampoo and conditioner in addition to the clarifying shampoo. Just be careful! If you use it too much, your hair could have a lavender hint.

I have hard water, and my hair always feels rough. What can I do?

First, if it's possible, you can install a water softener. If that's not an option, use a clarifying shampoo once weekly (or every 3-4 washes). Also, Malibu C makes shampoo, conditioner, and treatments specifically formulated for hair that has been compromised from hard water.

I swim a lot, and the chlorine is drying out my hair. How can I prevent this?

There are several steps to keep your hair healthy and protected from the damaging effects of pool chemicals.

  • Wet your hair and use a leave-in conditioner before getting in the pool. The conditioner will create a barrier, and since your hair will already be wet, it won't be able to absorb the pool water.

  • Use a clarifying shampoo immediately after swimming.

  • Some great brands make shampoo, conditioner, and treatments specifically formulated for hair that's regularly exposed to pool water. Book an appointment for a consultation today!

I have trouble blow drying my hair and can't coordinate using the drier and brush together. How can I style my hair at home to look like it does when I leave the salon?

There is a fantastic appliance that came out a few years ago, that is a blow dryer and brush in one! There are now multiple companies that have jumped on the bandwagon. There are many different sizes and price points. It's a no-brainer; anyone who has trouble styling their hair should have one.
